Road to Apache Solr for TYPO3 Version 2.0 and 2.5-EAP
With this post we'd like to start a small series of updates about the development progress for the next release of Apache Solr for TYPO3.
Most of the things will apply to both versions, the version of the Early Acces Program, as well as the public version. Some smaller parts will apply to the Early Access version only, but we'll of course let you know whenever that's the case.
The current stable versions of the extension are v1.3 (public) in the TYPO3 Extension Repository (TER), the Early Access Program (EAP) is at v1.6. it has been a while since the release of these versions, but we haven't stood still. However, we're currently not moving as fast as we would like to due to limited capacity in development power since one of our colleagues also working on the extension left us.
Since those last releases we were working on versions 1.4-dev (public) and 1.7-dev (EAP). Meanwhile we kind of "dropped" those versions and directly went to 2.0-dev (public) and 2.5-dev (EAP). The reasons for that jump will become more obvious by following along with the following updates in this blog.
For today this is it already, but you can have a peak at what's still open on our list for final releases to get an idea about where we are heading.
There are still some tasks open before we can do releases of the two versions. Currently we can not give any estimates on when this will be, but like always in Open Source there's an easy way to speed things up by helping to resolve open issue. Our issue traker for both versions - public and EAP - can be found on TYPO3 forge: http://forge.typo3.org/projects/extension-solr/roadmap
In this regard we would like to thank everyone who already helped out by providing patches, filing issues, translating labels, improving documentation and everything else related to the development of the extension.
